What is StarPet and how does it work?
We know your beloved pet is the centre of your universe, so this is their time to shine! Grab your camera (or phone) and enter your beloved pet in to StarPet South Africa’s monthly photo competition for a chance to win your share of R22 500, including R17 000 in Absolute Pets vouchers!
To enter, visit the StarPets South Africa website, complete the entry form and upload your favourite image of your beloved pet. It’s that easy!
Best of all, you and your beloved pet will be spreading a little joy of your own by helping StarPet South Africa give back to animal welfare at the same time. That’s because 50% of the profit generated from public votes goes to animal welfare. Plus, the People’s Choice winner gets to choose the animal welfare organisation that receives the donation!
How to vote in the StarPet competition
Once you’ve completed the entry requirements, ask friends and family to vote for your pet’s photo via SMS, Snapscan and/or Ozow Instant EFT. They can vote as many times as they wish. For more information on voting bundles, click here. The three pet photos with the most votes at the end of the current month will win 1 of 3 People’s Choice prizes.
Prizes up for grabs
A total of seven prizes to the value of R22 500 are up for grabs every month with StarPet South Africa, which are awarded in the form of Absolute Pets shopping vouchers and cash prizes.
There are three categories of winners for competition entrants: People’s Choice, Angel’s Choice and StarPet Pick of the month.
Each category’s prize values are as follows:
People’s Choice winners
Three People’s Choice winners are selected based on the total number of public votes the entrant receives. 50% of profit generated from these votes each month is donated to an animal welfare organisation of the winner's choice.
- 1st Prize – R7 000 (R5 000 Absolute Pets voucher + R2 000 cash)
- 2nd Prize – R5 000 (R4 000 Absolute Pets voucher + R1 000 cash)
- 3rd Prize – R3 000 (R2 500 Absolute Pets voucher + R500 cash)
Angel’s Choice winners
Three Angel’s Choice winners are chosen by the animal welfare organisation which received the donation the previous month. Entrants must feature in the Top 100 votes at the closing date of the competition to be eligible.
- 1st Prize – R3 000 (R2 500 Absolute Pets voucher + R500 cash)
- 2nd Prize – R1 500 (R1 000 Absolute Pets voucher + R500 cash)
- 3rd Prize – R1 000 (R500 Absolute Pets voucher + R500 cash)
StarPick of the Month
One winner is chosen by the StarPet team. The entrant must have a minimum of 20 votes to be eligible.

StarPet competition start and end dates
StarPets South Africa is a monthly competition. The winners are announced on the seventh day of the month following the competition closing date.
Entries for the following month’s competition open and close on the first and last days of the current month. For example, entries for July 2022 opened on 1 June 2022, and closes on 30 June 2022.
Voting start and end dates
Voting for the current month’s competition opens and closes on the first and last day of the current month. For example, votes for the July competition will open on 1 July 2022, and close on 31 July 2022.
